SLIGO RUGBY CLUB WORLD RUGBY APPROVED ARTIFICIAL PITCH

In 2016 Sligo Rugby Club implemented a club strategy to construct a World Rugby approved synthetic SISTurf pitch at the club’s grounds, Hamilton Park. Prior to the new artificial pitch, the clubs two grass pitches were fully utilised and with heavy rainfall were out of action at different times during the season. The mini section of players did not train at the club, but at a nearby facility which meant that the younger generation rarely trained or played at the club.

The club tendered the project in early 2016 and SIS Pitches, as World Rugby Preferred Turf Producer, was delighted to win the tender to design and construct a new all-weather pitch which would allow all teams at the club to train on the one site. The pitch which measures 105 meters by 50 meters utilises the same construction techniques that was used by Saracens and Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership.

bringing different generations together

The project commenced in August 2016 where SIS Pitches installed a prefabricated system of shock pads to ensure the pitch met the strict HIC requirements of World Rugby. Our experienced team then installed the synthetic turf SISTurf Rugger 65mm manufactured in our own factory in the UK. The pitch was infilled using Sandmatic technology which delivers accurate installation of sand and rubber.

The pitch was opened in late September and for the first time in many years, all Sligo Rugby Club teams train on the one site at Hamilton Park.
