First hybrid grass field in Ireland at the Aviva Stadium

THE CLIENT - AVIVA STADIUM

Aviva Stadium, located in Dublin, Ireland, is the country’s premier rugby and football venue. It is known for hosting world-class sporting events and is home to Ireland’s first SIS Grass Hybrid pitch.

THE BACKGROUND

The pitch at Aviva Stadium had stayed the same for six years and required an upgrade ahead of the Guinness Summer Series and the Rugby World Cup warm-up matches. With Ireland facing Italy on August 10, the new pitch needed to be ready for high-performance play.

THE BRIEF

The client needed a SIS Grass Hybrid surface to deliver a durable, high-quality playing field that could withstand the demands of international rugby and football. The timeline was tight, and the installation needed to be completed efficiently while coordinating with other ongoing work at the stadium.

WHAT WE DID

  • Installed the SIS Grass Hybrid surface in four days using two machines operating 24 hours daily.
  • Employed both the SIS Grass machine and the SIS Grass Universal machine to adapt to the stadium’s scheduling needs and complete pitch sections at different times.
  • Delivered a surface that blends 95% natural grass with synthetic reinforcement, offering increased durability and faster recovery.
  • Coordinated seamlessly with other stadium works to ensure minimal disruption and on-time delivery.

THE OUTCOME

The hybrid grass pitch was completed and ready for its first scheduled game, with the pitch performing to the highest standard. This project marks SIS Pitches’ first installation in Ireland and showcases the adaptability and quality of SIS Grass technology.

This is the first time SIS Pitches has worked with the Aviva Stadium and we were delighted to do so. We installed SIS Grass in just four days at the stadium and we are really happy with the way the pitch is settling. The surface will be in perfect condition for the big game on Saturday. Our installation at the Aviva was quite unique, we used our SIS Grass machine as well as our SIS Grass Universal machine. There was other work happening at the stadium, so we were able to complete the main area, and then come back to the stadium to complete the project at a later date with the smaller machine, this flexibility makes us quite unique on the market and it’s great for the client as we can be adaptable to their needs
