BMO Field, the home stadium of Toronto FC (MLS) and Toronto Argonauts (CFL), looked to upgrade their field to better accommodate the needs of their elite athletes.
Originally equipped with synthetic surfaces, BMO Field transitioned to natural grass in 2009. However, the high usage demands of a dual-sport stadium required a more robust solution that combined the playability of natural grass with the durability of synthetic surfaces.

The new SIS Grass Hybrid field has proven to be a durable and high-performing surface. It handled 3 games and 2 training sessions in one week without any noticeable wear. Groundskeeper Robert Heggie praised the system for providing peace of mind during the challenging winter months.
SIS Grass technology continues to demonstrate its value, as seen in its use at 6 out of 12 2018 World Cup stadiums, including Luzhniki Stadium, where the field endured 84 hours of use in just 5 weeks. This successful installation at BMO Field sets a new standard for hybrid fields in North America.
When you have an audience of one and a half billion, you just cannot afford a mistake. That’s the advantage of a hybrid stitched system. It works very well in high-wear areas.
