St Mary’s School and Homerton College partnered to deliver a shared sports facility at Long Road. These facilities aim to improve sports opportunities for students and the local community.
The project was part of an ambitious plan to support sporting excellence and encourage participation in various sports. St Mary’s and Homerton College envisioned a high-quality sports complex to meet the needs of their students and contribute to the local community in alignment with Cambridgeshire County Council’s Health and well-being strategy.
The brief required the construction of:
The project also had specific environmental goals, including minimizing carbon footprint, conserving wildlife corridors, and incorporating sustainable features like solar panels and energy-efficient lighting. Additionally, construction needed to be completed in time for the start of the academic year in September 2020, despite challenges such as adverse weather and the lockdown.
The Long Road facilities were completed on time for the September 2020 academic year, overcoming challenges such as a wet winter and lockdown delays. The new sports complex now provides St Mary’s and Homerton College students with top facilities while benefiting the wider community.
The project successfully balances sports infrastructure with environmental conservation, setting a benchmark for sustainable development in sports facilities.
Long Road will greatly enhance sporting opportunities for St Mary’s girls and I look forward to returning to the site to see our aspiring sportswomen in action

SIS Pitches successfully delivered the sports pitch complex (including hockey, netball and soccer fields plus an athletics area) for my Clients in time for the start of academic year in September 2020.This was in spite of an extremely wet winter which saw standing water on the site and then the onset of the Covid-19 lockdown period which suspended works for over a month. Despite these obstacles, the SIS Pitches team worked extremely hard through the summer period to keep the build on programme and to deliver a high quality set of pitches. They also worked effectively and flexibly with a separate Main Contractor who commenced the construction of a sports pavilion on the site whilst SIS Pitches were in the final weeks of their construction programme. My Clients are very happy with the overall quality of the pitches.
