SIS Plus pitch maintenance rescues pitch after heavy flooding

Derby RFC is the home of rugby in Derby. Its teams span senior sides, ladies, veterans, juniors, and various levels of the sport.

THE BACKGROUND

Derby RFC’s artificial pitch has faced repeated flooding since its installation. After the initial flooding in 2018, the pitch was fully resurfaced using SIS Grass Synthetic Xtreme Ultra, designed for high performance and durability. Subsequent floods caused further damage and surface movement. Some parts of the county experienced up to 85 cm of water in 36 hours, leaving the pitch needing significant restoration.

THE BRIEF

Derby RFC wanted to restore their artificial pitch without undergoing another costly resurface. They required a pitch maintenance solution to repair the damage, remove debris and contaminants, and return the pitch to playing condition.

WHAT WE DID

SIS Plus aftercare and pitch maintenance carried out a variety of restorative services, including:

• Removing all creases and repositioning the turf to the kerb edges.
• Removing 50 tonnes of old SBR infill.
• Performing a SIS Pro Clean deep clean to remove debris, fine dust, and contaminants from the infill and turf while decompacting the remaining infill.
• Applying a SIS Cleanse anti-viral and anti-bacterial treatment to the field, fencing, dugouts, and perimeter pathways.
• Adding 50 tonnes of new SBR infill to the pitch.
• Brushing and grooming the field.
• De-rigging and cleaning the compound area.

THE OUTCOME

Derby RFC’s artificial pitch was fully restored and returned to a condition that looked as good as new. By working with SIS Plus, the club could avoid the cost of another full resurface.
