On the 29th of September, Summerhill College welcomed students, parents/guardians, benefactors, local politicians, and representatives of sporting organisations to their official opening of their new synthetic pitch. However, it is not just a standard synthetic pitch, but the largest standalone pitch built in Ireland in 2023 and also the largest synthetic pitch in the West of Ireland.
Upon visiting the site, the sheer scale of the facility is breathtaking and is a huge testament to the investment in the pupils of the college.

The pitch utilises a dual-fibre surface, which provides the perfect combination of performance and durability for the multi-use of GAA, rugby, and football. The multifunctionality will play a key part in Summerhill’s ambitious goals of expanding their extracurricular programs and the welcoming of female students enrolling in September 2025.
