An outstanding pitch for an outstanding school
SIS Pitches won the project in 2014 to install a completely new hockey pitch in one of the most prestigious schools in North Yorkshire. Cundall Manor School is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school, described as ‘Outstanding’ and ranked in the top 9% of independent schools in the UK by OFSTED.
Complete new build project
The project consisted of a complete build which included the stripping of topsoil and moving it to another part of the school, then carrying out a cut and fill to set the level of the new pitch. After this, we installed a drainage system, sub-base formation, perimeter kerb and engineered base before the installation of our very own Pro-Hockey 18 which is made locally in our manufacturing plant in Maryport, Cumbria. The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget, and was ready for the school to begin using at the end of 2014.
The opening ceremony of the new pitch was overseen by joint Heads Amanda Kirby and John Sample who said,
We are delighted to have this amazing facility on site. Team sports is part of our daily curriculum and we had been losing valuable coaching time transporting pupils to neighbouring training pitches. Now we can focus our time and efforts on honing their skills on site.
Praise for the SIS Pitches team
Amanda Kirby added,
The professional conduct of the entire site team, the general tidy appearance of site times and the minimal disturbances to normal schoolday activities and use of adjacent sports grounds, were all exemplary. The superb playing surface has been eagerly used by a range of children from ages 6 to 16, hockey is a major sport at Cundall and the opportunity to play on our own astro has been wonderful.
