Hybrid Pitch Construction at FC Copenhagen

THE CLIENT – FC COPENHAGEN

FC Copenhagen, one of Denmark’s top football clubs, strived to upgrade its training facilities to provide players with a high-performance surface that could endure the rigorous demands of elite football training.

THE BACKGROUND

The FC Copenhagen Training Centre project involved reconstructing a natural grass pitch and installing our hybrid grass system, SIS Grass Hybrid.

THE BRIEF

• Remove and rebuild the existing pitch from the foundation.
• Install advanced drainage and irrigation systems.
• Incorporate SIS Grass Hybrid technology to improve surface durability and performance.
• Deliver the surface within a tight schedule.

WHAT WE DID

In June 2020, SIS Pitches began fully reconstructing the natural grass pitch. The process included:

• Excavating the existing pitch to a depth of 450mm.
• Installing advanced drainage and irrigation systems using SIS Pitches’ in-house expertise.
• Constructing the pitch with a layered foundation:
  • 150mm gravel for base stability.
  • 200mm sand for optimal drainage and playability.
  • 100mm root zone for superior grass growth.
  • Seeding the pitch with a Ryegrass mix, known for its resilience and high-performance characteristics.

FULL PITCH RECONSTRUCTION

SIS GRASS HYBRID INSTALLATION

Four weeks after seeding, the pitch was stitched with SIS Grass Hybrid technology. This globally recognised system provides the ideal combination of natural grass and synthetic fibres.

• Increased durability and stability, even under heavy use.
• Reduced maintenance needed for divots, etc.
• A natural look and feel for players.
• Completed in just 8 days using three SIS Grass Universal machines.
• 100% electric and laser-guided equipment ensured precision, efficiency, and minimal disruption to nearby residents.
