TA’QALI NATIONAL STADIUM IN MALTA, SISGrass hybrid pitch, Maltese Premier league, SISGrass, hybrid technology, football pitch

The stadium is the home ground of Malta’s National Football Team, as well as the main venue for matches of the Maltese Premier League.

The stadium will host the 2018 World Football Cup European Qualifying match Malta vs Scotland on the 4th of September 2016.

The SIS Pitches project includes full construction of the new pitch and installation of SISGrass – the patented hybrid pitch system. The project, led by Carlos Reis, Operations Director who constructed with his team the pitch in 22 days. The existing pitch was removed to a depth of 100 cm, new drains were installed along with a new automatic irrigation system. The gravel, sand and root zone was imported from Italy due to no suitable materials available on the island. The pitch was row planted at the end of June with a supplier from Italy.

SISGrass, which provides clubs with a 95% natural grass pitch, was installed at the end of July. The SISGrass technology features the highest quality custom synthetic fibres from Bonar Yarns – a unique yarn blend which is exclusive to SIS Pitches. The reinforced natural-turf system advantage are unrivalled durability, improved pitch recovery time and increased playing hours.

SIS Pitches would like to thank the Malta Football Association and their staff for their support and assistance throughout this project.
