Aramco Stadium Project Progress: From Turf Farm to Stadium Pitch Construction

Following a number of successful projects across Saudi Arabia, SIS Pitches began preparing Aramco Stadium in January 2025 for both the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Our responsibilities cover the establishment and maintenance of the on-site turf farm, two training pitches plus goalkeeper areas, and the main stadium pitch build, with the SIS Pitches maintenance team managing all surface maintenance throughout.

Aramco Stadium Turf Farm

The first phase of the project was the design and construction of a turf farm to serve both the stadium and training facilities. Construction began in February 2025, and the turf farm was fully operational by April 2025.

The dedicated turf farm has been central to the project throughout, running daily maintenance programmes and strength and durability testing ahead of harvesting. It continues to supply turf for both the training pitches and the main stadium, simplifying our supply chain by reducing lead times and ensuring a consistent, locally grown supply throughout.

Training Pitch Development

Training Pitch A and its goalkeeper areas were constructed and planted with stolons in May 2026, marking the start of the grow-in phase, with maintenance and testing managed daily by our in-house team.

Training Pitch B followed in June 2026, with harvesting, transportation and planting all completed successfully and early establishment progressing well.

Both pitches were built by our team, with drainage, irrigation infrastructure, and sand and laser grading all completed to lay the groundwork for turf establishment.

Following handover of the main stadium pitch area to the SIS Pitches construction team in July 2026, work has moved quickly. As of 27th July 2026, completed activities include sub-grade laser grading and compaction, drainage mainline excavation and installation, electrical conduit and cabling, irrigation mainline welding, and geotextile and liner installation.

The pitch build will incorporate SIS AIR Core vacuum ventilation and SIS GRASS Hybrid, matching the stadium’s field of play to the standards required for elite international competition. Stadium turf planting is set to begin in August, using turf cultivated specifically for the project, followed by the SIS GRASS Hybrid installation.

With training pitches established and the stadium now entering its turf planting phase, SIS Pitches continues to support Aramco Stadium’s development ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, when the venue is set to host seven matches, and the 2034 FIFA World Cup beyond.
