SIS Plus complete transformational maintenance at Durham University

SIS Plus, our in-house maintenance experts, recently completed a transformational project on the athletics facilities at Durham University. Durham University is one of the highest-ranked universities for sports provision and is a long-term client that we have great pleasure working with.

In the world of athletics, every split-second counts. Therefore, regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure competitors can always perform at their optimal level.

Regular maintenance can enhance longevity and help maintain high-performance standards.

The Brief

The task involved:

• A deep cleaning and maintenance of the athletics track to ensure optimal performance for competitors.
• Maintenance and upgrade of surrounding areas, including seating and debris removal.

Athletics Track

Stage 1 – Deep Clean:
Used high-pressure water cleaning equipment to remove embedded dirt, debris, and organic contaminants from the track surface.

Stage 2 – Attention to Detail:
Employed hand-held pressure lances to clean hard-to-reach areas, including the lane numbers, giving them a refreshed appearance.

Stage 3 – Seating Area Clean-Up:
Cleared debris from the seating areas and surrounding spaces, creating a cleaner environment for spectators.

The SIS Plus team blitzed the area, uncovering and removing all of the unwanted debris. While it wasn’t affecting performance, it’s a nice touch to make spectators feel more comfortable when they’re cheering the athletes on!

• Installed and maintained artificial Football and Rugby pitches featuring the Rugger 65 surface for all-weather play.
• Delivered and maintained a high-quality water-based hockey pitch using SIS Grass Synthetic Xcel Ultra for consistent ball speed and movement.

The Outcome

The athletics track and surrounding facilities underwent a transformation, ensuring they met high-performance standards and enhanced the experience for athletes and spectators alike.

Durham University’s sports provision now supports all-weather and high-standard play across multiple sports, with surfaces providing long-term durability and excellent performance.
