Electric pitch heating comes to Germany with SIS HEAT Dynamic at 1. FC Bocholt

The main pitch of 1. FC Bocholt 1900 is equipped with a fully electric pitch heating system, SIS HEAT Dynamic. This is the first sports pitch in Germany where electric pitch heating based on a stainless steel heating mesh is used, with the entire installation subsidised by the municipality.

The German club was looking for a system that would allow the pitch to remain playable even during cold periods. In addition, the installation had to meet future facility requirements and the club’s sustainability goals.

Electric instead of hydronic

To this end, the SIS HEAT Dynamic system was chosen to be installed by DrainTalent. Unlike traditional hydronic pitch heating, no hot water is pumped through pipes beneath the pitch. The heat is generated electrically via a stainless steel heating grid.

This allows the system to react faster and distribute heat evenly across the playing field. Moreover, the electrical installation can be powered by electricity from renewable sources.

A key argument for its application is energy consumption. The electrical system allows for energy savings of up to 65 percent compared to traditional pitch heating. The system also requires less maintenance. The actual savings depend on factors including usage and on-site conditions.

For FC Bocholt, the installation is primarily intended to ensure that the natural grass pitch remains usable for longer during colder periods. At the same time, the club is gaining experience with a technique that has not previously been applied in this way under a sports pitch in Germany.
